The final deliverable which will be tested by judges and the community should be deployed on the mainnet.

Testing a smart contract with minting how to be in this case? Minting a character will cost, say, 1000 TRX. One of the rules says: Testing: The Entrant must make the Project available free of charge and without any restriction, for testing, evaluation and use by the Sponsor, Administrator and Judges until the Judging Period ends.

How to be in this case?

Or did I misunderstand this point?

Minting is fine. What the Hackathon specification meant is you are not allowed to have some kind of pay-to-view or subscribe-to-access project as it will be impossible for judges and the community members to check out your project without paying.

For services that require payment (such as minting or payment processor), you should submit a video showcasing the entire process of using your project/app so the judges and the community members may understand how it works entirely.

Most of the hackathon submissions will be in the DeFi category or handle user funds in someway.

Most of the devs participating in this hackathon are unexperienced, hobby Blockchain developers.

Is it the right decision to mandate that we all deploy to Mainnet? It is industry practice to have all contracts deployed to Mainnet professionally audited.

I doubt any of us will be getting our contracts audited. A professional smart contract audit can range from $50,000 USD to $150,000 USD.
